You walk into the house. The floor creaks beneath your feet, since it isn’t used to supporting mortal weight. You make your way noisily across the living room, then slowly move across the kitchen floor. Still, the floor is creaking. How long has it been since Marceline has had her house inspected? You could’ve sworn termites were exterminated during the Mushroom War, but you also wouldn’t be surprised if Marceline’s house had inspired the solitary termite infestation in Ooo. When was this place built, anyway? You make a mental note to ask her about it. That is, whenever she so chooses to appear…
“BONNI!” Marceline materializes from nothing. You lean back on your heels, then fall, hitting the kitchen tile hard. Marceline laughs maniacally, a little too maliciously for your taste, but her eyes are gleaming. You can’t help but feel excited.
“Hello,” she sings, circling you as you gather yourself and stand up properly. She’s lying on her side, her waist orbiting your shoulders. You reach out to grab her by the hips, interrupting her rotation.
“Hey, Marceline,” you spit back, mocking the greeting you used to reserve for the vampire, before your reconciliation. You even furrow your eyebrows to completely look the part. Marceline, taken off guard for a moment by your distance, softens, despite her best efforts.
“Well, what’s up?” she says, drifting closer to you, your hands still stuck to her hips. You neither pull nor push the floating girl in front of you. She seems unsure. Uncomfortable? That won’t do.
“I missed you,” you smile, and she smiles back immediately. You pull her in hastily for a kiss. She’s always kissed more gently than you do. It makes you laugh. As per usual, she blushes.
“I missed you, too” she mutters, violently brushing her bangs out of her face. She kisses you again, quickly, shy, not long enough for you to react appropriately. This bothers you. Even when it comes to Marceline, you like to do things your way.
“Is that the only reason you’re here? Because you missed me?” The vampire floats away from you and sits herself on the counter, near the fridge. She extends her arm and opens the refrigerator door, to expose an array of raspberries, strawberries, and fresh meat. “Or were you hungry?”
You examine the contents of the fridge for a moment, grab a strawberry from the bowl, then shut the door. You hold it by the stem, between your index and middle finger. “No,” you say purposefully. “The Ice King has kidnapped Slime Princess again. Normally I would deal with him, but I have a conference with the Duke of Nuts at sunset and I’d like some time to mentally prepare for—”
Marceline rises from the counter and flies forward, until she is face to face with you. She takes the strawberry from your hand, puts it to her mouth, then sucks the color from it slowly. She stares at you the whole time, and drops the white piece of fruit in your open hand.
“Sure, I’ll take care of it,” she says, chucking the strawberry in the trashcan. Her hands find the small of your back, then start snaking upward, settling behind your ears. Your pulse quickens. Marceline notices, and is characteristically thrilled with herself. “But you know that won’t take long. I mean, fifteen minutes, tops. So what should we do in the meantime?”
You feel her cold hands tightening around your head. Your noses are almost touching now. You step forward, as the floor creaks loudly underneath you. Marceline giggles, and lifts you into the air with her. She then reaches to the nearby wall, switching the light to OFF, leaving you both in the dark.
